Offensively, Scott Valberg’s 4 catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns, including a 95-yarder and another 57-yard reception by Alex Vanags were the passing highlights. On the ground the combination of Marty Gordon’s 82 yards on 15 runs, and Mike Giffin’s 63 yards on 10 runs added up to another strong running game.
On the other side of the ball, Ian Hazlett had another outstanding day with 6 solo and 3 assisted tackles plus a sack and an interception. Jimmy Allin had 6 solo tackles as well, to go with Michael Patone’s 5 solos. Neil Puffer had 2 solos, 2 assists, and a sack. Queen’s held Waterloo to 176 yards passing and only 45 yards rushing, but were powerless to stop the officials, who thought they were in the new NHL and called several illegal contact penalties on their way to a 14-penalty, 100+ yard day.
Next up is the Hall of Fame game at home against the still winless University of Toronto Varsity Blues on October 15.
