Vicinity of Maeva offers an incredible sight of several stone Marae's
erected by local chiefs to protect the island from invaders from Bora Bora.
Many of these Marae were restored by Prof. Sinoto in the 1970's.

The wooden posts are called unu, they were place in front
of the ahu platforms commemorating human sacrifices.
