Thomas, that cross is not a marking for someone who died on the road to Hana. It's a marker set by a priest in the 1800's who served the people on the northern side of Hale'akela. There's actually a marker the road that explains all of that. It was not a result of fatigue, except in that of servitude to the people of Maui.
