30 Sep. 2002,
Polynesian Cultural Center
in Laie, Oahu.
"Horizons: Where the Sea Meets the Sky" is a large revue casting over 100 performers from several Polynesian and Melanesian nations. (At some time the show was replaced by a similar performance Ha, Breath of Life) The show is really very impressive. Dancers, singers, fire-walkers, all this is very well performed and very athletic. You should see it at least once! More informations on about the center are on their excellent web page http://polynesia.com/ Photography must be made strictly without a flash. Back than "before the digital era", the images were made on Fuji P1600 film using a Canon image stabilizing lens. Today ISO1600 is not much... The "no flash" photography policy was strictly enforced. Every visitor with a camera in hand was asked to switch off the flash. After every accidental flash in the public, stewards swung immediately red lights and showed large signs "No Flash"! At first I found this a bit exaggerated, but as we saw the performances with torches and fire-walking, it became obvious how essential good night vision was for these performers. |
