Painted Bunting 2009, 2010 and 2012

Just when I thought I'd NEVER see one!!!! What a thrill!! The 2009 Painted Bunting photos where shot from my SUV window with a 500mm lens resting on a beanbag. Additional photos added and dated.

Unfortunately, the quaint little pond has been filled in and a new building stands there now. The hideous (to me) background in this shot is a parking lot!!! At least the birds are still coming there, as the surrounding fields are not mowed and have lots of tall grass and wild flowers. Plus the area is near Lake Conway.

I have only ever seen one Painted Bunting and I do not have a good picture of it, but your shots are wonderful. There is no more colorful bird that I know of.

Always a thrill! Painted buntings used to nest in a thicket in a part of my town that later became a "development." when one lands on a patio in the old area of nesting, people always think it's an escapee..some tropical pet bird!!! JoAnne Rife in the Ozarks..

Very, very nice. I got these from a link my friend Kelly sent. She knows I'm a big PB fan! I have a very shaky video I took with my phone when one landed on my FEEDER one day. You should check out Rick Evans Grandview Prairie - great place, and good one to find these beautiful birds. GREAT PIC.S!!!
