Moss Park- Florida - Wildlife & Nature

Located approximately 10 miles from the Orlando Airport the 1500 acre Moss Park is a popular site for campers and water activities. Many species of wildlife have congregated there along with the connected 1800 acre Split Oak Park as a refuge from destruction of habitat from the growth of Orlando.

Nearly 100 species of birds alone have been spotted at Moss Park at one time or another along with many species of animals, etc.
Note - Many of the other images in other gallery's were taken at Moss Park as well.

I live in Orlando but just visited Moss Park for the first time this summer and spent almost an entire day photographing the Sandhill cranes. Now with the cooler weather I'm planning on going often. Are there any whooping cranes in the Moss Park/Split Oak area?
Your gorgeous pictures are what inspired me to go there in the first place. Thank you for this very interesting website.

Hello, I just found your gallery while looking for information about the moss park lakes. I go out to split oak often for hiking/wildlife viewing. Your pictures are what its all about. Just yesterday I saw for the first time a bobcat at split oak. We were walking the trail back from the back entrance of the campground and were on a straight path, when he came out looked at us and then ran down the trail until he reached the sign to disappear back into the brush. Along with that we saw 10 male turkeys, 15 deer, 2 eagles together flying and rs hawk. It truly is a wildlife paradise.

Hello, I just found your page while looking for Moss Park images. I actually just live around the corner in Isle of Pines and I've been wanting to go out there a get some shots. I was amazed by all of your pictures which made me want to go even more. I have yet to get a DSLR, I still have my 35mm SLR. So I was wondering if you could give me any tips? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! Hope to hear from you!

Sorry for the delay in responding as I haven't checked my site recently which I hope to add many new photo' with a different format. Yes there are both otters and alligators. Also I am currently at Moss Park doing a wildlife photo project for them, so if there again in the near future give me a call at 315-869-1454.

George, a great gallery. I've just recently gotten the nature photography bug and like to go the Moss Park and Split Oak Park for subjects. Today I got photos and video of an otter in one of Split Oak Park's southern lakes. I also assumed that there were no alligators in the small southern lakes because they appeared to be man-made but today I photographed a 7 footer in a canal connecting two lakes.

I will be participating in my first sprint triathlon at Moss Park on March 18, 2006. I stumbled upon your gallery while looking for park information and I'm impressed! The grass hopper on the flower is awesome. Thanks for posting such great stuff

Hi Rod,

Yes I felt the same when I looked at some of your pictures from Merritt Island.

By the way if you decide to go to Moss Park, would not advise from Friday PM till Monday Morning as it is to crowed with visitors & campers.

Excellent work as usual George. How much walking do you have to do to capture such a variety? Its hard to imagine seeing such a variety in such a short space of time.
