Ah, the first hike of the fall season. Five of us met at the usual 6:30 AM and drove to Tortilla Flat along the Apache Trail. Actually we drove a little east of Tortilla Flat and hiked into the canyons south fo the trail. The goal was to hike upstream in Tortilla canyon until we reached Peters canyon and then follow Peters canyon another 1.67 miles to its closest approach to Tortilla canyon. At that point we were to cross the ridge separating the two canyons and follow Tortilla canyon back. Well, that was the plan. Reality was quite different.
