The hike started off great, with dramatic skies and good light. But then the light went flat. The sun didn't appear until almost the end.

Deven, Sridhar, Ioan, and Raji scampered up the smooth side of the wash and played roll the backpack with the water jug down to Sudarshan.

This smooth section extended about 50 meters, and then turned into a boulder field once again.

There are several pools in this area of the canyon. Good thing it did not rain the previous night.

Closer crop of the trailhead. When we started at 7:30 AM there were only about 5 cars in the parking lot. My Jeep is on the right in the closest row, partially hidden by a Palo Verde tree.

Barks Canyon Hike.jpg
The hike path: started and ended at the Peralta trailhead (the loop at the end of the dirt road). The northern most part is where we left the trail and started following Barks Canyon to Barkley Basin. On the profile: a yellow dot at just before 1.5 miles indicates where we left the trail and entered Barks Canyon. The bump around 2.75 miles is my side trip attempt to locate a mine on the canyon wall (unsuccessful).
