women had a mountain to climb in order to secure the right to vote in British Columbia...however, after patient and persistent campaigning by Suffragists, a referendum was finally held, and it passed, just one hundred years ago (5 April 1917) from yesterday...this was empowering for women, yet of course it was voted on exclusively by men, such was the order of the day...at least the guys showed understanding, and extended the right to vote to the other half of the population...seems obvious enough nowadays, yet this was a big step forward in that era
Interestingly, Native Indian women were not enfranchised at this time, nor those of Chinese or Japanese origins...racism was still endemic in the late 19th century
the scene here is again (see previous) along the 3 m/4.8 km loop trail around the central granite formations that dominate at Vedauwoo...evidently this is a favourite location for rock climbers
