beach

Quadra Island

when you see the word 'beach' on a map, certain images are easily conjured up...however, in the Pacific Northwest a beach can be quite rugged...upon emerging from the path through the forest (see previous), the first sight of Wa Wa Kie Beach revealed an expanse of rocky, timber-laden shore...still I was the only person here, and reveled in the relative quietness, broken only by ravens' calls, and from somewhere in the distance, the bellowing of a sea lion

as for the name Wa Wa Kie, it is likely a mis-spelling of We Wai Kai, a native band that lives on Quadra

Nicely composed, David. I like your commentary --- sounds (and looks) like a wonderful place to explore.

Rugged, yes, but pristine as well. Vote.

Nice image. This part of the island gets a direct hit from the winter south-easter storms.

You are right. Here we are used to seeing sandy beaches along our coastline and this is a reminder that all beaches are not the same.It is a great capture to show the nature and accumulated flotsam of this one.V

Beautiful beach scene with the northwest mountains in the background. V

You were about 1000 years too early for a sandy beach David. Plenty of firewood to keep warm whilst waiting.

Rugged but beautiful and the peaceful tranquility to hear natures songs must
be most welcomed. V

beach |bēCH| noun
a pebbly or sandy shore, esp. by the ocean between high- and low-water marks.
And a splendid view of nature's quiet.

Some of the beaches along the north shore here on Long Island can be quite rocky like this. The sure don't have views of mountains in the distance though! Very pretty photo. V

A beautifully composed image David! This doesn't look like a beach for sunbathing.... ;) V
Carol How19-May-2014 17:21
Its a wild vista you captured…very beautiful! V
Helen Betts19-May-2014 16:29
Definitely is not what I expect when I hear the word "beach," but a most interesting one, nicely captured. The low POV works quite well here, too. V.

Not a Caribean beach of course. Love your low angle and composition.V.

You are right,David, this isn't a beach as I visualize it in my mind. I can only imagine the possibilities of driftwood images. :))
