From 25-30 august 2011 I went to Riga to attend a bird conference. I had some spare time and spent it on bird photography. Almost all birding trip reports to the Baltic states consider Estonia in april-june so hardly any information was available. Therefore, I include some screenshots of balticmaps.eu to highlight a few good birding spots. However, these are almost all restricted to coastal sites due to my limited time available. Inland forests, bogs and swamps are likely to produce good species like owls, grouse and woodpeckers, but I had no time to go there. One short stop in a scots pine forest in Kemeri National Park produced a splendid Three-toed Woodpecker though!
