Visiting my Grandparents in Florida, Fort Lauderdale in the year 2000. The glorious plants and birdlife captivated my grandparents and myself alike. One of their pastimes was to take people on walks into the 'Fern Forest' near their home- a kind of nature reserve for the marshlands that originally covered Florida and in places like the Everglades still do. I owe a lot of my love of nature to their influence and now thank them for dragging me away from the TV, to see what was then just a "bunch of plants" to me!
