Some days in Diaccia Botrona

The Diaccia Botrona is a vast wetland area near Castiglion della Pescaia, a little town in southern Tuscany. It represents what's remaining of the ancient Lake Prilius.
The area, close to pine woods and beach, is very important for migratory birds.
Visual landmark of the wetland is the Red House, built in eighteenth century to control the flow of water.
Despite the huge presence of birds, expecially in winter, bird's photography is not easy cause the extension of the area and the lack of shelters. However, a day in Diaccia Botrona is a nature's full immersion you would not regret. In Autumn, Glasswort plants form a reddish carpet characterizing the area.
Diaccia Botrona is one hour and half far by car from my town, Livorno, so it's not a travel I can afford frequently. During the year, I reach the area about a dozen times: each one satisfy my nature's craving for some days.
