One of the largest quarries in the Cynon Valley. Many of the terraced houses and colliery buildings of Mountain Ash had their stone from here. The tram would have been used to carry stone to the site of the Abergorki, Navigation and North Pit colleries which were sunk in the middle of the 19th century by John Nixon and Co.
