Vlieland is a municipality in the northern Netherlands. The municipality of Vlieland has only one major town: Oost-Vlieland.
It is the second-least densely populated municipality in the Netherlands (after Schiermonnikoog).Vlieland is one of the West
Frisian Islands, lying in the Wadden Sea. Counting from west to east, it is the second island in the chain; after Texel and before Terschelling.

Vlieland is vanuit het westen gerekend het tweede bewoonde Nederlandse waddeneiland, gelegen in de provincie Friesland.
Het eiland is onderdeel van de gemeente Vlieland.De gemeente Vlieland telt 1.146 inwoners (31 dec. 2008, bron: CBS).
In de gemeente ligt slechts één dorp: Oost-Vlieland (2004: 1070 inwoners).
