De Haar Castle (Dutch: Kasteel de Haar) is located near Haarzuilens, in the province of Utrecht in the Netherlands. The current buildings, all built upon the original castle, date from 1892 and are the work of Dutch architect P.J.H. Cuypers, in a Neo-Gothic restoration project funded by the Rothschild family.
The oldest historical record of a building at the location of the current castle dates to 1391.
In 1890 De Haar was inherited by Etienne Gustave Frédéric Baron van Zuylen van Nyevelt van de Haar (1860-1934), who married Baroness Hélène de Rothschild. They contracted architect Pierre Cuypers in 1892 to rebuild the ruinous castle, which took 20 years.
The castle was equipped by Cuypers with the most modern gadgets, such as electrical lighting with its own generator, and central heating by way of steam. This installation is internationally recognized as an industrial monument. The kitchen was for that period also very modern and still has a large collection of copper pots and pans and an enormous furnace approximately 6 metres long, which is heated with peat or coals. The tiles in the kitchen are decorated with the coats of arms of the families De Haar and Van Zuylen, which were for this purpose especially baked in Franeker. For the interior Cuypers made extensive use of cast iron.The interior is furnished with many works of the Rothschild collections, including beautiful old porcelain from Japan and China, and several old Flemish tapestries and paintings with religious illustrations. A showpiece is a carrier coach of the woman of a Shogun from Japan. There is only one more left in the world, which stands in a museum in Tokyo.
In 2000, the family Van Zuylen van Nyevelt passed ownership of the castle and the gardens (45 ha) to the foundation Kasteel de Haar. However, the family retained the right to spend one month per year in the castle. In the same year, the Dutch society Natuurmonumenten bought the surrounding estate of 400 ha. An extensive restoration programme of the castle and the gardens was initiated in 2001 and was completed in 2011. After the death in 2011 of the last male heir, Thierry van Zuylen, his daughters also sold to the new owners the complete art collection and interior of the castle.

Kasteel de Haar (vroeger Het Huys te Haer) is een kasteel bij Haarzuilens, in de omgeving van Vleuten in de gemeente Utrecht. Het is het grootste kasteel van Nederland. Het werd vanaf 1892 op de ruïne van het oude kasteel herbouwd in neogotische stijl. Naast het kasteel staat een kapel.
De oudste geschreven vermelding, een akte, dateert van 1391. Het kasteelbestond toen uit niet meer dan een versterkte woontoren. In de loop van de jaren breidde het kasteel uit. Door het huwelijk van Yosina van de Haar met Dirk van Zuylen van Harmelen kwam het slot in het jaar 1449 in het bezit van de familie Van Zuylen
In 1890 erfde baron Étienne van Zuylen van Nyevelt van de Haar (1860-1934) de kasteelruïne van zijn vader Gustave van Zuylen (1818-1890). Étienne was op 16 augustus 1887 in Parijs getrouwd met barones Hélène de Rothschild (1863-1947), een erfgename uit de Franse tak van de rijke bankiersfamilie De Rothschild. Mede dankzij haar fortuin had Étienne de middelen om het voorvaderlijk kasteel op een grandioze manier te laten herbouwen. Voor de herbouw van het kasteel werd de beroemde architect Pierre Cuypers ingeschakeld, die er in nauwe samenwerking met zijn zoon Joseph Cuypers 20 jaar mee bezig was (van 1892 tot 1912).
Kasteel de Haar is geen eigendom meer van de familie Van Zuylen. In 2000 werd het kasteel en het direct daar rond gelegen park (55 ha) eigendom van Stichting Kasteel de Haar en het landgoed Haarzuilens (350 ha) van de Vereniging Natuurmonumenten. Alleen het châtelet is nog eigendom van de familie Van Zuylen.
Op 7 november 2012 werd een overeenkomst ondertekend waarbij de Stichting Kasteel de Haar eigen
