From an historical marker at the site:

The ancient monument under a sediment of sand here is called Wat Ku Padom, to honor the owner of the land. This temple was largely excavated in 1999-2003 and the excavation will continue until completion.
Wat Ku Padom was a big temple, situated southwest of Wiang Kun Kam. The temple faced southeast. The grounds consisted of a Vihara, a Chedi and a worship alter, surrounded by a wall with a porch to the main gate. Outside the wall were a rite pavilion (Ubosot), another Vihara, a well and some other buildings. The Vihara behind the Chedi shows traces of several layers of construction.
Importent ancient aratifacts found here included a stucco statue of an angel similar to those at Wat Jeyod (15th-16th centuries A.D.), Haripunchai-style terra-cotta Buddha amuletls (15th-16th centuries A.D.), a Lanna-style bronze Buddha head, Payao-style sandstone Buddha head (16th-17th centuries A.D.), and bowls from Lanna kilns (14th-17th centuries A.D.)
Interesting art works found here include a stucco-work Magara (Makara) spewing a serpent from its mouth decorating both banisters of the stairway to the rite pavilion, the one situated to the east. The Magara is a mythical creature, a mixture of croccodile, porpoise and elephant, while the dragon or serpent is of Chinese inflence. This was the first time that this design appeared in Lanna (the ancient name of the northern part of Thailand). Apart from this, there are turned-up and inverted lotus-petal designs on the upper part of the lotus base of the rite pavilion's wall.
Construction of the temple took place several times during the 16th-17th centuries A.D.
