Great to meet you in Hinton today! Happy photo hunting and come back again!
Thanks Peter. There's no substitute for good glass. Depending on how much you want to spend and how much bulk and weight you want to deal with, I'd start with something like a 300f4 with a 1.4x teleconverter. Moving up to a 500f4 or even a 600f4 would be the ultimate for shooting birds.
Thanks for the amazing work that you do. Your photos have been invaluable in helping me identify so many of the birds we see on our feeders, and out and about in Fish Creek Provincial Park.
Your talent is overwhelming with the incredible shots. Certainly enjoyed your recent 2013 photos. Last time I commented was Feb 2005. Your great work and identities resolved a lot of guesses. Cheers, Willy, in Castle Downs!
I discovered your site while sitting at Slack Slough by Red Deer yesterday. There was a shorebird I could not identify so I used my phone to search & found your site. Since then I have forwarded it to friends and co-workers as you have some of the best photos I have ever seen, particularly of waterfowl. Simply great photos!!!
By the way it was a black-necked stilt that your photos identified for me.
Good stuff Gerald. I met you on Sept 8th at Elk Island. I was the guy from Nova Scotia. Sharron and I had an awesome time in Alberta and B.C, totalling 40 lifers! Hilites were the Avocets at South Cooking Lake, 200 Heerman's Gulls in the Juan De Fuca strait, and watching an American Dipper pound the crap out of a minnow on a rock before swallowing it. Thanks to you and your buddies fro the field trip. Cheers, Ron.
Hello Gerald. Im John's buddy and met u at the restaurant Friday am awhile ago. My wife is an artist and she enjoys your photos. I will bring her up next time we r in town. I hear John is heading for the CloverBar elevators to see the falcons.
It was great meeting you the other day! I have looked through your photo's and have only one word "Wow". You have a lot of fantastic shots. I hope we run into eachother again some day that was a great shoot.
Thank you for sharing your photos and tips with the Buffalo Lake Naturalists.

Thank you for sharing your pix, they are beautiful and well done
Great referance site, I have used it a number of times to identify the birds that I want to identify before posting the picture.
best person and the best pictures i have seen truly a great artist
Your owl galleries are probably the most complete and the best to be found here on PBase. I am by default jealous of anybody who lives in BC or AB, and you must top the list of people I am jealous of simply by all the opportunities you have had to see and photograph these owls!
PS: your other galleries are nice too!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Impressive gallery - Thanks for sharing.
You have some very interesting pixs. I like how you've framed/cropped some of them. Cheers from Oz.
Im glad I work alone in the office because I was gasping and oooing in awe at many of your shots. Fantastic!! Got your information from Bruce at WFMI (Friend of Trevor-Goshawk Guy). Know of some great toad sites in the Whitecourt area if you are ever in need to diversify this section of your portfolio
Really great stuff - love the recent Great Grey (haven't seen any this year)!
You've got a keen eye for bird photography. There are many exceptional images here. Continue your efforts.

Hi Gerald, you have some outstanding bird images! I've really enjoyed your galleries!
superb galleries, you must have spent hours to catch all these great birds, thanks so much for sharing!
Your outdoor photography is outstanding which made it such a pleasure to visit your website. Regards, Robin
Hi Gerald. Thanks for your comments. The insect photos are all taken in Alberta, and although most are from the Edmonton area, there are many from the prairies and now some from Waterton, although those haven't been put in their appropriate galleries yet. When I do the on-line photographic guide to the arthropods of Alberta (hopefully this winter if the museum gets its act together) all the photos will be accompanied by date and location.
You are a truely gifted photographer, and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to see your shots.
Top shot Gerald, the best for Great Grey Owl. A very different reality than Italy, my country. Good light, Roby
WOW! WOW! WOW! You have a keen eye, Gerald. And you have a beautiful affinity with Nature. Thank you for living your passion in a way that we can all enjoy and appreciate. Keep up the great phototaking - always look forward to seeing more....EDP
Very nice images. I know how hard many of these are to get. You are to be commended.
Very nice wildlife galleries. Over the last year or so I've had alot of fun trying to learn to capture many of these same creatures. Enjoyed viewing your shots. Thanks.
I am an avid outdoor person so your pictures are extremely interesting to me
and I would like to commend you on your photo ability and outdoor ability.
Thank you very much for all your effort for providing this outdoor education
for everyone to view.
Hello Gerald, The pictures are fantastic and I absolutely love your site. Did you take all of these photos yourself? Such amazing shots! Thanks for sharing.
Mr. Romanchuk, I love your work,it is magnificent. I found out at the Bird store on 99th street.
I enjoyed viewing your photos.
I heard of you through my brother and his wife - Jack & Dot Howell. They see you quite often at Elk Island. Love your pics - you are priceless. Could you send me your e-mail address as I've received some pics of hummingbirds that might interest, and I would like to forward to you. Always look forward to any new pics you have. Thank you.
Alice Easton (FSNS) steered me towards your site - great pics!!! Would like to create a link to them from the new FSNS website (as a reference source) - with your permission of course.

Gerald: Fantastic shots...guess I will have to change up from my brownie hawkeye to compete with your professionalism!! The Grouse has departed, sorry you didn't get the shot!
Thanks for the kind words.
I use canon digital slr's. First a 10D, and I recently upgraded to a 20D. I have 2 lenses; a 300mm/f4, and a 100-400mm zoom (I've used both with & without a 1.4X teleconverter).
Enjoyed your photos.. you have a great eye for photography..what type of camera and lens do you use.
enjoyed all of the pictures.you should be proud of your work.
Really a fantastic array of pictures you have here -- you make it look so easy! I enjoyed visiting. Thanks!

Very impressive work Gerald. I had an extremely tough time deciding which shot I enjoyed the most. They're all wonderful.
Hi Gerald. Great pics. I particularly enjoyed the owl shots.
