In the southeastern side of New Jersey lies a vacation town, Wildwood, where fireworks sponsored by Coca Cola is displayed every Friday throughout the summer. On this very day, Friday 6th Jul 07, things got a little bit special. On Independence Day's(4th Jul) night which was 2 days before, the weather was unsuitable for fireworks. Hence those pyrotechnics indented for Independence Day will be fired off on 6th Jul, together with those sponsored by Coca Cola, creating a 20min long galore of fireworks display!
The essentials to shooting fireworks is to have a tripod and a good location. My Manfrotto tripod which cost me S$300+ was sanely left in SG because it is just not worth the effort carrying a tripod to US. I'm left with a good pair of bipod(my beanpole legs), and a good camera. Using a little bit of mathematics, I worked out the camera settings that I need shooting without a tripod, and went off firing off 700+ shots!
Each time the fireworks thundered off, it seemed to serenade me the song sang by the 4 pretty boys - "Yan Huo De Ji Jie". The chorus goes something like "...hold the hands of your love one to enjoy the beautiful sight of the fireworks...".
Apart from the beautiful sights that it gives, fireworks is also a psychologist who will brutally blast open your heart & create the emptiness in oneself. Put your chin close to your chest and peek into your blast-opened heart, who do you see? More often than not, he/she will be the person that you wana interlock your fingers and watch the fireworks with.
If you are holding your cameras or mobile phones aimlessly trying to catch the fireworks, it is time to put them down & enjoy the fireworks with him/her. Call your special one if she's not by your side. Fireworks are as beautiful as it can get only if it is shared with your love ones!
That should be the way to watch fireworks...
... sitting side by side...
... leaning against each other... saying:
"isn't that beautiful...."
When she's not by my side...
... it reminds me of SG Fireworks Festival in 2006...
...where we fight for a spot with the Esplande crowd...
...getting only a few decent pics but enjoying ourselves out...
