Scenes from Dovercourt and Harwich - small seaside towns in Essex, England.
The two Dovercourt lighthouses are the most prominent features of the seafront. Erected by Trinity House in 1863, they were used until 1917, guiding ships around Landguard Point with their powerful gas lamps. The deep-water channel is now marked by buoys.
The North Essex town of Harwich sits on the estuary of the rivers Stour and Orwell and has a rich maritime history. Famous inhabitants include Christopher Jones, master of the Mayflower and diarist Samuel Pepys.
