Echidna on road

Avon Dam, NSW Australia

Echidnas are rather bizarre creatures, being egg-laying mammals (a trait they share with the platypus). They feed most famously
on ants and termites, ripping apart nests with their powerful front claws while probing with that pencil-like snout and extending
a long, sticky tongue.

"Tachyglossus", the generic name, means "fast tongue". Hmmm.. that would be an interesting nickname for a guy like me.
