Goannas or Monitor Lizards, family Varanidae

Goannas (Varanids) include the largest lizards in Australia (and the world). They can be identified by their rough, often baggy
skins, long, pointed heads and deeply forked tongues. Most Varanids are hunters and or scavengers and can outrun just about
any other species of reptile. The family Varanidae is widely distributed through the African continent, Asia, and Australia.
Australia boasts the largest diversity of Varanid lizards (also called monitor lizards and locally, goannas) with well over twenty
species so far described.

Oh, and Goannas can bite.. Don't pick them up. Especially not in your mouth.
