Siān and Keith O'Brien with a copy of Ulam S. Hughes' diary, he was one of the Welsh Imperial Singers. Mrs Sue Muncey, his grandaughter, from Flintshire, kindly donated it recently to Llys Ednowain and it can be seen there. It traces the WIS's first tour of Canada from Sept 1928 to June 1929 and its extremely interesting and humorous. Here's a taster:
"1st Oct...stayed at Royal Hotel, here I must mention the fun we had with Harry and Howell Williams with the telephone, Harry running away from it, then Howell going to it so brave and put the receiver to his mouth and speaker to his ear, with Jabez, Jack and myself laughing so much he wanted us to hush, so he shouted "shut up" through the phone, I thought I should have gone ill with laughing"
