Trawsfynydd Artillery Range and Camp

From 1905 until 1959 a military camp existed at Bronaber near Trawsfynydd, with the nearby Cain Valley aquired as an artillery firing range. Parts of the range are still closed to the public due to the presence of live munitions.

There's a pub near the bunk house and there's a few old photos of the tents in their positions and field artilary guns parked on a tarmc area. Total of four photos. April 2012. Looking at the local area (high hills and boggy ground) which reminds me of South Africa - I wonder if this was a camp for training prior to Boar war or Zulu war?

Hi, I discovered the Llechwedd Y Gain Observatory while out backpacking earlier this week along with a splinter proof shelter which was falling apart, and was wondering if you know why it has been repaired. I could still smell fresh creosote while I was there. I was thinking its being preserved or something of that sort...? Great site and pictures by the way!

An excellent gallery which I have been looking at from my home on the other side of the world in rural SE Asia (at 17N, 103E). From 1968 to 1977, I lived (and had a small farm) just over the hill in Cwm Prysor, when I worked at the Power Station.
