Flight between Kathmandu to Lukla (2800m) - the gateway to the Everest region. Absolutely thrilling - Lukla's 'airport' is a very short gravity airstrip.
The airport was closed to fixed wing craft (we choppered in) when I visited in March 2001 and construction was underway. They had a mechanical rock crusher, but then carried the crushed rock by hand in buckets(!!) to lay the foundation for the runway. And they put tar on top by hand.
