IC1396 in Cepheus

Another vast emission nebula, located close to Herschel's famous "garnet star", the bright star in the upper right corner. Many dark molecular nebulae are embedded in IC1396, incubators for newly born stars.
The image is a narrowband composit of spectral lines emitted by ionized hydrogen and oxygen ( Ha:OIII:OIII = R:G:B).
