This is one place where we went swimming as children. The water was so clear that you could see the shore from the sandy bottom. We would take rocks to the bottom, set up a little table service, and play house at the bottome of the brook. (we all could swim at an early age, and we could hold our breath forever). This is a beautiful and idyllic place with many happy memories.
I just made it here as the sun was setting, with the light bright for a last few seconds and the water still as glass. The building was called the Old Mill, it is a residence now. The brook flows into the end of the Niantic River, a sheltered place called Golden Spur.
I lived here 1954-1958, before I-95 was built. The old mill is on Rt. 1 to Waterford, just off the interstate.
