Hurricane Katrina Photos

This month, September, I have not been able to keep up with my pad. All of, my focus, and the focus of everyone around me has been on hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Leaving home on August 28, I thought that I would be back in a day or two. Little did I know that I would be away for quite a while, under mandatory evacuation. These pictures are an accumulation of pictures taken in the two weeks following August 29th. Most of them are pictures that I have taken, (some from the window of a moving car) a few are pictures taken by friends that have given me permission to use them. Only a few are from New Orleans, those were shot by Dr. Joe Thompson as he escaped his home through flood waters over eight feet deep. Others from New Orleans are from an area called “the island”, a small strip of land where we had a camp. This strip of land was in the easternmost part of New Orleans and rested with Lake Catherine on one side and Lake Pontchartrain on the other side. Only about 8 miles long and in some parts only a block or two wide. This area was totally devastated. Out of over 2000 camps, only 8 remain. The rest of the pictures encompass the surrounding area, of Bush, LA (where I waited out the storm) Metairie, Kenner, and Slidell, LA.
As we are allowed back into the City, I will be adding more. Thank you for viewing them and please remember all of those who have lost everything in your prayers.
