New York City - 2/15/03

This rally also occurred on a bitterly cold day with temperatures only reaching into the mid-20s (deg.F). The notable difference between this rally and the one in DC (on 1/18/03) was that it occurred entirely within the shadows of the tall buildings of NY City, making it seem all the colder. Having taken the train up, I took the opportunity to hoof it over to the rally site and take in the sites of New York along the way. I could not resist ducking my head into Grand Central and what a grand place it is.

Aside from the tall buildings, the thing you are struck with (compared to DC) is the number of police. It appeared to me that there was at least one on every city corner of Manhattan. And, as one got closer to the rally site, their numbers increased dramatically (as the pictures attest).

I couldn't make the trip up to New York without visiting Ground Zero. So, at the end of the day, I took the subway down to the southern tip of Manhattan before catching my train back to Virginia. It was like being drawn by a magnet. So close, you had to go ...
