Hiding

Istanbul

Seen at the entrance to the Spice Market, I almost hesitate to display this image, a true stereotype of Muslim women.
In fact, these were the only totally covered ones we saw.
Although some Turkish women do wear the headscarves, very few wear this strict, religious dress.

Well, I see more of it now than when I first lived here, from 1996-2000. But still only a relatively small number of women wear this çarsaf in Turkey. Helen

Terrific shot! As Carol said, the eyes tell it all.

In the interest of travel journalism photography I think you've captured the hidden aspect of the women there. Their ways are still mysterious to me even without this dress. The peering eyes give it away, don't you think?
One of my favorite shots in the whole gallery!

Well, that's one way to get around the need for a release.
