Galleria Archaeologica

Galleria Archaeologica.
This is second series in Archaeologica and we have to thank Dr Michael Birrell for this continuation of his delightful photography of Egypt.
As we mentioned in the first Intro Michael has BA Honours in Archaeology from the University of Sydney and an MA and a PhD in Egyptology from Macquarie University and has been working on excavations in Egypt and the Near East since 1987. He has been a Macquarie University Lecturer and Tutor since 1991 and conducts special interest Study Tours throughout Egypt, The Oases, the Deep Libyan Desert and to Italy and Turkey.

We decided to retain this tale of Michael in this the second series as it is sooo good. . Michael has actually sold a car in Cairo to a blind man. Traveling back from digging at Dakhleh Oasis and ending up in the usual frightfully heavy Cairo traffic with the eventual purchaser, Michael was conscious of a steady instructional stream of comment from his blind passenger. Now traffic in Cairo has to be seen to be believed and only the native or the suicidal take it on and Michael being neither decided to let the blind passenger drive the remaining way into the city which he did without apparent difficulty.
Deciding never to drive in Cairo again Michael asked his passenger if he would like to buy the car at a very good price and to his surprise his offer was accepted.
Michael has as yet to catch up with this rather wild rendition of his tale remembered thru a haze of Stella Local we might say, and is in Egypt as we type so for the moment we are safe…
Michael is a superb photographer and it is with pleasure that we introduce Galleria Archaeologica second edition. This is a library of work and we will add to the galleria. There is a Grazing Tile introducing Series Two.
