Message from GEORGE A. FIAD, SR.
I have been taking pictures since I was a young teenager in my home town of Brooklyn, New York. My father gave me my first Bell and Howell / Canon Auto 35 mm camera for my 13th birthday and I've never been able to put a camera down ever since. During my High School years at Miami Sr. High, I become a yearbook photographer and later Editor n chief. In college, I studied photography and art to fill my electives with what I loved. I was most impressed by the work of photography instructor, William Maguire, professor of Visual Arts, at FIU. He was and is a master of night photography, which is one of my favorite themes, and I was forever impressed by the true value of a wide angle lens and Black and White film thanks to his mentor ship and teaching. I will never forget his comments on what he called my "Mona Lisa" photo.
Between college and law school I freelanced as a weekend Wedding Photographer and an accident and personal injury law firm freelance photographer while working as a law clerk. For many years afterward I kept my love of photography suppressed and secondary to other income producing functions. My professional life as a Real Estate Broker, Mortgage Broker and part owner of a Title company in South Florida have been rewarding and wonderful experiences as well as great ways to make a living while helping others.
It wasn't until a very close friend and new found photo mentor and digital guru, Eduardo Latour, a forty year seasoned professional in the world of commercial photography, turned me on to digital photography that I truly felt a desire to dedicate more time to the medium and art. In fact, I fell in love a new with photography through the lens of my new Nikon DSLR. With Ed's help and mentorship, showing me the ins and outs of the digital medium, steering me to the latest books and information on digital photography which he had ventured into early in its developments and with his assistance in learning to use tools like PhotoShop,Lightroom and others, I began to find myself devoting more and more time to the new "Art" of digital photography. Ed finally encouraged me this year to go pro again and do Weddings, Portraits and Events with him as a joint venture. Working with Ed is always fun and never boring. Our Studio, FIAD PHOTOGRAPHY, will be focusing on Magazine Style / Photojournalistic Weddings, Portraits and Events Photography. We will also be offering destination and Worldwide Wedding and Events Coverages. I invite you to stop into our studio's website at www.fiadphotography.com, and view our work on a regular basis and to visit our new BLOG and Events sites.
I have been very blessed in my life with five beautiful children that are all the apple of my eye. They are all very talented and gifted in their own right. All are musically talented, one, Leopold, my third oldest son, became a music teacher, composer and master pianist and performer of a wide range of music. The baby of the house is an aspiring pianist and devoted ballerina. My oldest son, George, Jr., is a proud member of Home Land Security and has been helping protect our country from threats from abroad for years now. I am particularly proud of him. Jonathon, my second oldest, is a new father to Jonathon Jr., and is following in Dad's footsteps, working with me at the family businesses as well as his own enterprises, and is also in love with his new Nikon DSLR. Gregory, my forth oldest, is a fine pianist and Guild Certified Piano teacher, a clarinet, oboe and guitar player, and plans on becoming a Dentist. With him I hope to defer some of my family's future dental bills.
November 7, 2006, marked a turning point in my life with the loss of my beloved twenty year old son, Leopold Alexander. He was the true music "Maestro" in our family, a true bohemian, artist and romantic at heart. He loved his music with passion and showed it everyday of his life since the age of six. A true follower of the teachings of Jesus, he was a delight and a Blessing to all that met him. Since that fateful day in November 2006, I have found respite from my sorrow and loss in my photography, in my old love, the art of making memories that transcend time.
I have been visiting PBase galleries since 2005, and have been amazed by the wealth of talent and creativity that makes PBase its home. I was encouraged by a PBase member whose work I admire, Marisa D.L., a master at her art, and a wonderful poet with a camera, to place my photos on this site sometime ago, but always felt that with my busy schedule I did not have the time to do it. Now that I find myself spending more and more time with my camera each day, and in the knowledge that each day should be a new begining and a new learning experience, I want to share some of my digital images and learn from the PBase community and its members through their comments and suggestions. I hope the work I post will be welcomed, and that it may bring some enjoyment to those that view it. I aspire to be at least half as good in my love of the art of photography as my son, Leopold Alexander, was with his music and compositions.
In keeping with my responsibility to deliver the best that I can be to my clients, before opening our new Studio, with Ed's help and encouragement, I have become a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), and the Professional Photographers Association (PPA), in an effort to continue learning each day and applying new, fresh, creative, innovative and challenging techniques to our body of work and for the benefit of our clientel. Our new Studio's focus on Magazine-styled Photojournalistic Weddings, Portraits and Event Coverages Worldwide, is a vision and dream come true. I know that many good things will come from it with God's Blessings. I invite you to stop in to our Studio's web site at www.fiadphotography.com, and drop me an email with your comments and follow our growth as we develop, evolve and grow in this Art. Also stop by our new BLOG. You will find the link to our BLOG on our Studio web site.
One last note, I was fortunate to have been able to photograph a miracle in the form of an apparition at the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Miami. As a result of the short time it was present at this Blessed Chapel, I was one of the very few to fully cover this amazing event. I posted the photos on my PBase as a means to make them available for viewing to all those interested, and to my surprise, thousands viewed the photos and the comments boxes became an ad hoc forum for discussion and debate. I will consolidate these photos into a single sub-gallery and leave them for the viewing pleasure of all interested; however, I would request that the comment boxes and messages be reserved stricktly for commenting on the photos and not as a center for debates, discussions on religion and beliefs, and worst of all, for arguements between visitors. I will also be updating the PBase gallaries this month to include hundred of new photos in the areas of Travel, Scenery, and Artistic Photography.
Finally, I would like to dedicate my work on this site to my greatest love of all, my five children: George, Jr, Jonathon, Leopold Alexander, Gregory, and my little princess, Annelise. You are all that I live for.
Enjoy!
