Tom Brown's Squirrel House gallery

We "met" Tom when he sent us some absolutely wonderful photos of a grey squirrel using a squirrel house he built especially for the species. The house is beautiful and the photos are charming. Although Tom lives in Pennsylvania, the fact that he was inspired to send us his photos by reading about grey squirrels on the FWG website, has forged a connection. Many people enjoy watching squirrels and houses such as the one shown here certainly attract grey squirrels, and no doubt, in our area, red squirrels too.

Love your photos. I love watching/feeding the squirrels in my yard. Thinking about building a squirrel house.

we just lost our tree, 200 yrs old, right outside our door. We have been feeding the squirrels for 12 yrs, and they come to my wife, even have brought hurt babies to her. 10 of them lived in this tree, and all our hearts are broken over the loss. We even have a red tailed hawk that visits, and sits next to the squirrels while they eat peanuts. Have pictures of this. Squirrels ignore him, birds have issues! We are going to build houses for them. How many do you put in a tree? 10 families lived in our tree in knot holes.

Hi George, thanks for your interesting note. Squirrels can show colour variations, and it is not unusual here in North America, to see Grey Squirrels with red tails, or our little Red Squirrels (a different species from yours) with a sometimes tawny coloured tail. So your red squirrel with a grey tale would be very unusual, but not unheard of.

Hi Adrianne, these houses were made by Tom Brown for his own use in his garden. As far as I am aware, they are not for sale. He does provide some photographic instructions for building your own (see the gallery called "Building the Squirrel Nestbox"). They are great, aren't they?

c'est une galerie magnifique qui met joliment en scène ce petit écureuil si vif et intellgent. Vos photos sont un régal à voir. Un grand bravo pour ces très jolies photos.
