Eastern prickly pear cactus flower (Opuntia humifusa)

A small stand of prickly pear cactus has been been growing on the edge of the rockery for years. This summer, the flowers were especially showy. This is a species native to Ontario, though not to the Ottawa region. The species is considered endangered federally and provincially.
