Many insects mimic bees and wasps which can often make for an identification challenge. Shown here are some common bee and wasp mimics. While most were taken at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden, a few were photographed in other local areas, including the adjacent Central Experimental Farm. No doubt these insects will be also be found at FWG. As you'll see, many of the mimics are flies.

Great pictures Christine! Question: I can see why the Bombylius would be called a 'Beefly" , but the Systropus looks more like a Dragonfly than a Bee. What makes it a Beefly?
