I want to show the beauty that Fungi posess. Very few people realize the diversity of the fungi world.
Please note that identification on some pics is at best an educated guess. It would take spore printing and/or gill attachment i.d. to properly identify fungi.

I'm trying to identify a mushroom inky yard I've not seen before in 20 years, here. It was so perfectly shaped it did not look real. It was the shape of a Blue Milky, but was a blue-green-gray with white base and gills. The top was so round, flat with rounded edges and flat depression in the center that it looked more like a coat button than a mushroom. Sound familiar?

Beautiful photos. I am an avid snap snap photographer and sometimes they come out worth keeping. I have been shooting the fungi on our farm and if they look good enough put them on notecards. Not many people realize just how beautiful and varied mushrooms/fungi can be.

I love your gallery of photos. I am an avid mushroom hunter--mostly to photograph. I'm learning the edibles but I'm more fascinated by how they look than how they taste. I've photographed many of the ones you have here. I'm always interested in learning more and wish I had someone to teach me. Thanks for sharing your pics.

These are beautiful and arranged to make identification as easy as possible. We found an amanita and another you do not seem to have a picture of. It is orange, growing in a cluster of about 30, has a level not-quite circular cap, with only a slight gradual indentation at the center. About 1 inch diameter. My Russian wife says they look like one she was familiar with over there. Want a picture?

We have enjoyed morels for years, plus a few others we find in our area of Kentucky, but today when I was collecting pecans from my Hardy Pecan tree, I noticed an odd pink stem with green slime on the end of it growing among the leaves that had fell. I carefully collected it and put it in a plastic bag, but it stunk so badly that I transferred it to a glass jar. I found your photo site and researched till I found the Dog Stinkhorn. What a surprise, but so glad to know what I had growing under the pecan tree. Thanks for such great photos.

Do portobello mushrooms ever grow on trees? My father use to get portobello mushrooms and I thought he told me he would always find them growing on a certain tree but can't remember the name of the tree if that matters and he said only on one side of the tree.

Just a first time visitor chiming in. I notice many people are asking how to learn more about mushrooms. I recommend M A W, the Mycological Association of Washington (DC). I was a member for 8 years or more, but eventually we grew tired of the travel from Manassas. And besides, I had learned a great deal about finding, identifying, and cooking the edibles. The best thing they do (for learning to i d mushrooms) is to take you out to forays in the DC and Va area (sometimes Maryland), let you search the site for mushrooms, and then you go to the foray leader(s) for instructions on identifying each of those mushrooms. That's the best way to learn. Have fun, but stay out of my secret spots. Robert in Manassas

I found 2 white mushrooms in leesburg, VA that were about 4' high and about 14' across. I couldn't believe they were mushrooms since they were so large, but I am told that mushrooms in Florida can be that big. Any idea what kind they are?

I have so many mushrooms in our woods in central Va - relatives from Germany used to come and go out and harvest the edible ones, but I don't know which are which. How can I find out?

I live in the Shenandoah Valley and have a wealth of mushrooms growing in my yard. I have looked through all of your pictures and can not match many. If I send you pictures can you help me identify them? I have become facinated with the wide variety just outside my door.

Very beautiful pictures! We camp near Potts Creek next to Jefferson National Forrest and noticed a lot of mushrooms this year. As a matter of fact I don't remember seeing very many at all in the past couple of years. I found alot of pictures of them. I still can"t find a picture of the the ones that look like pine cones, I don't even know if they are mushrooms or not. do you know the ones I'm trying to describe? The camera is going with me this time so I can take a picture.

My complements on your attractive portfolio. There is a lot of controversy on classification in the field of course. Slime mold is being removed from the fungus grouping, while elsewhere the Daddy Long legs is not a spider, having no venom or biting mouth parts.

More than beautiful. I have a pix of a cluster of orange mushrooms. If I sent it to you, could you identify it for me? After looking at yours, I believe it might be of the orange fairy caps, or the rusullo variety. But I am not a mushroom person, just a photographer hobbist. Thank you.

Absolutely stunning, Scotty! Very well done! On a somewhat technical point, your 'Britishsoldiers29' is, of course, not a fungi per se, but a Lichen. It would qualify as only 50% fungi.

Thank You for your amazing photographs. I was able to identify a large 'Chicken Mushroom' discovered during a recent visit to Virginia, a rural area near Saluda / Utbana. The specimen was about 2' by18" growing within a 3-4 day period ~ amazing k.
