I guess some wishes hooked on trees. |
Hanoi, its little lake and many cables. |
from a cafe terrace overlooking the lake. |
||
The Ngoc Son tample on the Hoan Kiem lake. |
||||
The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in a typical communistic style. |

One way to show how a bicycle can be loaded. |
These 2 pictures inside the museum for ethnography. |
There is also another "staircase" without tits on the left. |
||
The 3 last pictures show the outside of the museum of ethnography that should not be missed. Not only is it important for understanding the various populations of Vietnam, but in the outside they have rebuilt some houses in various styles. |
A typical cafe or restaurant with the standard seats. I have to mention here that according to elevators the standard weight of a vietnamese person is 66,66 kg (against 75-78kg in Switzerland)! |
Ha-Long Bay, famous since James Bond films. 4 hours bus from Hanoi, then one to several days cruise. |
Visiting the largest cavern. |
|
The lion's head. |
||||
Fog, mist, etc. everywhere. |
The captain put two men on various decks, then he lit incense, and with loads of stress he passed by boats like this one. Not to mention the island just behind. |
This and the next one are winks to H.S. with full respect. |
||
Back to Hanoi: the Theatre Thang Long Water Puppet, recognized by Unesco. Check for instance this blog: http://niiniii.blogspot.com/2011/07/thang-long-water-puppet-show.html . |
Hué. The guarding statue inside the forbidden city. On the same model as in Beijing. |
Check this: http://www.orientalarchitecture.com/vietnam/hue/imperialcity.php . |
One of the many cauldrons. And a tourist wanting to drown his wife. |
|
Many statues and sculptures in the parkls along the river shore in Hué. |
||||
Among the 8 major tombs around Hué we visited 3 (just rent a taxi). The first one, also the most interesting one is the Tu Duc Tomb. |
||||
Then the most majestic Minh Mang tomb. Also the farthest. |
Finally the one of Khai Dinh who deceased when he was 40. As he lifted the taxes by 30% to build this tomb, people did not regret his death. |
|||
He was also a bit megalomaniac. |
Durians! Mmhhh! (you have to taste). Don't smell, just eat. Then learn to smell. |
|||
The bicycle bridge between our hotel and the market. |
Again the statues along the river shore. |
On our way to Hoi An. |
||
One of the many small and nice coffee shop in Hoi An. |
And the evening market across the bridge (not the Japanese one, the one that is supposed to be a toll-one). |
And sometimes we remember that, yes, we are in a communisitc country. But you really have to look around to spot it. |
One of the house that we could visit by buying a booklet of five tickets. |
|
Inside one of the Hoi An houses that we can visit. The most important aspect of religious is a true respect for the parents and ancestors. |
Some example of the rich (barocco? kitsch?) decoration of a temple. |
In Europe you light candles, in Vietnam it's incense rolls. |
The small Japanese bridge that miraculously escaped destruction during the war. |
A tourist lost in front of the Japanese bridge. |
The bridge from inside. Can't believe it was empty! |
Here you see not only that it's a school, but also what they recommend for eating. You may wish to compare top the one pyramid from Nestlé, for exampole http://www.buitoni.com/Italian-Living/The-Mediterranean-Way-of-Eating.aspx . |
Local craft industry. Watch the usage of the foot to hold the wood. |
Carrying is not only to show for the tourists, it's a true way of living. |
A young bride and an happy groom. |
After this last picture of Hoi Han 6 pictures of people in Nha Trang's Doc Let beach and nearby market. Otherwise I didn't want to post the usual beach pictures. I'ts superb but not clean. Go and check by yourself. |
A young boy who walked with us for a moment when we were visiting the area around Doc Let Beach. We saw some interesting private tombs there. |
Soup, sticks, helmet and the smile: This is a good summary of Vietnam. |
The butcher counting her money. |
|
Probably students. They were advertising for a new soda. |
Bitexco Financial Tower : Tallest Skycraper in Saigon. Cool when you travel by helicopter. |
So many mopeds. You have to see them driving and crossing! |
