The End of the Innocence
8.30.07

So today was Ian's first day of kindergarten. Not a good day for me. I had planned on taking the
day off to watch him go, but I just didn't think I'd handle it all that well. Jim had a similar
experience today, seeing Hailey board the bus for her first day of kindergarten.

The bus picks him up right by our house, so it's not like Margaret has to go far to watch him board.
But today, just to make sure he does ok with it, she was going to follow the bus to school,
watch him get off, and make sure he gets to his class without some sort of meltdown.

Well, she doesn't make it to the school in time and he is already off the bus and heading in when
she gets there. His teacher says it would be ok for her to come in and say goodbye. So she heads in
and blows him a kiss and says goodbye. To which he puts up the peace sign as if to say,
"It's all good, mom. You can go now."

He's onto the next stage. Hanging out with kids I have no idea about. Hoping they are all good kids.
What their upbringing is like and the values they may or may not have in common with my son.
I can't pre-screen them all, but I'm going to try.

It just keeps reminding me of the opening to a classic Henley tune...

----------------------------------

Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath a deep blue sky
Didn't have a care in the world
With mommy and daddy standing by
When happily ever after fails
And weve been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers dwell on small details
Since daddy had to fly
But I know a place where we can go
Thats still untouched by man
Well sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
You can lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

So, so sweet! But he's still your baby!

Yea, the Sony does fairly nice shallow dof.
Even better when I throw a strobe in an umbrella to camera right.
I forgot to add that in the description.

Awesome. Just awesome. I liked the picture before you put the words up but now it's even better. The DOF is just perfect.
