Last year, I'll admit, I did a lot of the work for Ian. Mostly cutting and sanding.
When I sat him down to work on it, he'd rub it with the gritty stuff for a few minutes,
and then get bored or tired. It was his first year. He hadn't had a taste of the excitement yet.
This year is a little different, he's a year older and knows how it feels to have a great looking
and fast car. He's very excited about it, and even had his own design picked out ahead of time.
I agreed to shape the basic profile this year and then he was on his own. I'll make some quality
checks along the way, but I'm trying to ween him down until either next year or the year after,
when he'll be ready to shape his own block and say that it's 100% his.
Later this week, I'll be sneaking off to Ace Hardware to pick up my OWN Pinewood Derby kit.
Oh yea, it's on like Donkey Kong.
