The Getty

The Getty Center, opened in 1997, is a large stone, glass, and metal complex located north of downtown Los Angeles on 750 acres in the foothills of the Santa Monica Moutains. It was built to display and preserve the J. Paul Getty Trust's collection of pre-20th-century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, photographs, and decorative arts. The complex was designed by architect Richard Meier to express Getty's roots in the past and belief in the future.
