Waterworks - RC Harris Filtration Plant, Toronto

The RC Harris Filtration plant, otherwise known as the Waterworks, the buildings are a fine example of Art Deco architecture, on a large scale. the Indoor shots were taken during Doors Open Toronto, where for one weekend a year the doors of many public buildings are thrown open. Photos below are a mixture of B&W photos taken using 3200-speed film handprinted on agfa portriga fiber based paper, Digital photos and Digital Infrared.

Like a previous viewer, I also searched out pics of the Waterworks after reading Michael Ondaatje's "Skin of a Lion" and found them very helpful in placing scenes of the novel. In so doing I have discovered a very beautiful piece of Canadian architecture.

Nice pics. That plant has beautifal Art Deco architecture for sure.
FYI, that picture of the reservoir is actually one of the filters.

Reading Ondaatje's IN THE SKIN OF A LION, I have found several passages about the Toronto waterworks with a Harris as director. The photographs in the gallery have helped me to visualise the book better -- thanks --
