What is Lomography? It's photography using the Lomo Kompakt Automat LC-A camera, a camera originally made for the Russian army. It is a technically astonishing, cute and robust little Russian compact camera. Built in St. Petersburg, it uses an unique lens designed by a Professor Radionov, though shamelessly copied from a Japanese Cosina CX-2. There's no autofocus, motor film advance, flash, or automatic film speed setting. The exposure system is a primitive arrangement with a light sensor and capacitor that looks like something out of a Radio Shack electronics kit. The wide-angle lens vignettes horribly at times, and getting the focus right is total guesswork.

The 32mm f/2.8 coated lens is faster than any point-and-shoot zoom lens and returns vivid colors. The exposure system will keep the shutter open up to 2 minutes, which allows vivid, surreal photos in any light, even starlight. The vignetting, vivid colors, and sometimes blurry focus is elemental to a photo phenomenon known as Lomography - a different take on analogue photography. It's not necessarily about technique, it's just about taking photos.

Armed with only a basic Lomo LC-A , our intrepid hero sets out to take as many "interesting" shots as possible. Eschewing the conventional constraints of photography, this is definitely a work in progress and a labor of love; this section will be updated often, so visit often...
