I was born in Puerto Rico in 1954 and I moved to NYC in the early 1980s. I did complete my Ph.D. at CUNY in NYC. Currently, I am a sociologist and a college professor at CUNY. Though, I am not a professional photographer, I take photography quite seriously and I call my-self a serious amateur photographer.
In 2007, I started taking pictures using a Nikon DSLR camera. I had done some film photography before —in the 1970s— using manual prime lenses and an old SLR film Leica camera but I did stop completely my previous involvement with photography until my wife gave me an entry level Nikon D40X with two basic lenses as a gift that year.
Today (Jan. 2015), I am using Nikon semi-pro bodies (Nikon D800 and D810) and I have invested a significant amount of money is good Nikon glass (from wide angle to long telephoto lenses).
I did start these galleries back in 2008, when I was still in the process of "relearning" photography for the digital era. I was not very good using Photoshop and other image management software and it took me several years to learn the basic skills that you need to properly do the processing of RAW files.
When I came back into photography (after a brief experience in the 1970s shooting black and white in film and focusing on portraits and people) my renew interest was related to my involvement with birding. To be brief, most of my photography since 2007 has been with bird photography and nature.
I have revisited some of these galleries and I have to say that many of the posted images are not the best ones. I may need to delete many original files and update many of the current galleries. However, I may keep a considerable number of the images that I have posted since that would show the progress I have made since 2007.
Regarding what I have done since 2007, I should say that after learning the essential elements of digital photography using an entry-level Nikon D40X, in 2008 I did begin shooting with a Nikon D300, a middle level DX body. In 2009, I moved to a full frame body (FX), the Nikon D700. In September 2010, I started shooting with a Nikon D3S. Shooting with a D3S was a new adventure, since it works quite well in low light. Currently, I am shooting with the newest Nikon D810 that is the best Nikon body that I have used so far. I have sold all my original Nikon cameras except a Nikon D800 (backup body) and the D810 that I am using now.
Finally, in these galleries I have posted pictures that I have taken since 2007. I have not done much updating in these galleries during the past two years or so, (since 2012 or so). I need to do a lot of updates, delete old photos (bad-average quality) and post new pictures in the near future.
Actually, I am in the process of (re)building these galleries.
