Unit to capture insects in flight. This new version use an extra optical lens system to look at the insects in flight for focus. The optical system need only 40 usec to see if the insects is in focus. The information from the optical system is send to a CPLD board. This board drive the D300 and all the functions like an extra fast external shutter. The total delay between the detection and the photo taken is only 7 msec (compur0 shutter).
This looks like e real improvement. I assume the top lens is just to focus on the intersection of the laser beams, with a photodetector to detect reflected, modulated light?
Now you need to endure the winter (or take this equipment on vacation?)
