First attempt of the new setup 2011. The unit has an auto focus detection. If something is in focus then a shot is taken. The measuring time is only 40 usec (1/25.000 sec). The external shutter need only 3.5 msec to open. The smallest high-speed moving object may be less than 1 mm. Camera is set in manual mode and the focus distance is fix. No need to look into the camera viewer to take a picture.
Only pictures in focus are taken. Variation in depth is very small from the detector resulting in sharp pictures at very high speed. The Uniblitz shutter is one of the fasted shutters today at this diameter. Once an object is detected, the moving insects are always in the middle of the picture. For night work, additional LEDs are mounted on the frame. 3 external flashes can be used and they are all working in TTL mode. Power control via one central buttom on the frame. Light ballance between left and right side under control of the CPLD module. This ballance continues to work even be changing the global power control switch. This settings are stored into the module and are available on the display. Backlight are enabled at night to see the values.
