A simple and very effective composition with a dormant sense of beauty here. Perhaps it's the perfect symmetry ordrained by the half 'imperfection' to the right. Love this!

very interesting choice. We perceive the missing part a lot this way!

Love this treatment! So well done.
francesco scipioni26-Aug-2007 11:23
wonderful!
Guest 24-Aug-2007 17:12
This is a perfect photo. Everything. This is a perfect example of being at the right place, at the right time, in the right frame of mind to even SEE this! It says so much. Thank you. You made my day with this shot. VV

I get the feeling only the little girl was present, and you happened on her guardian angel - dutifully by her side, but out of the way. And what is the little girl thinking ? My hands are cold ... I prefer the Impressionists ... can we go now? Is 'ethereal' too strong? Outstanding picture in so many ways. ~voted~ Colin at pbase/agripix

A fantastic shot of what looks like a parallel universe. Great composition and colour.
Edith Champagne13-Jun-2007 16:08
That's very nice, the mood and the colors are perfect! V

Another masterful shot, Ann! Great compo and color and the choice of vignetting effect. It feels like coming straight out of a Polaroid...
Brad Troy Photography17-Dec-2006 03:03
One of your best square shots. The half woman on the right freaks me out. Seems ghostly.
Mattias Backström19-Oct-2006 17:20
This one makes me green of envy. I really like this series a lot. Long live the square photos!
Vipin Mayer24-Jul-2006 21:05
lovely tone and a scene which makes the viewer think a lot, superbly done.
jaac19-Jul-2006 23:15
Fantastic image and a clever choice to crop the women in half, makes for a much stronger image.

She does look quite clinical, and her positioning, stance and stern look, makes me feel like she was supposed to be out of shot whilst you took a pic of the psychotic child in a straight jacket she was minding...very surreal...excellent image :-) :v:
Kelly Clark Moncure12-Jul-2006 02:20
once again I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE this!

Bernd Koenemann12-Jul-2006 00:36
The seemingly simple treatment of the subject creates a stunning effect with tremendous atmosphere.
TC04-Jul-2006 19:40
Unreal. The color and the slight vignetting contribute wonderfully to the atmosphere. I like it a lot.

More art than photography. Just Love it!

A good situation!!
david procter09-Jun-2006 14:22
Perfectly composed and great in green, alienating and perfect for this - she could be playing.
Jeffrey Tomasi08-Jun-2006 15:21
Great shot Ann. For me, the color gives it a clinical, almost hospital-like feel, as if this is the subject of some vaguely creepy experiment. Like most, also love the crop here. Was this a candid?
Kevin Chan06-Jun-2006 19:33
perfect crop and mood
shatterbug06-Jun-2006 05:07

Incredibly COOOOOOL!!!!!
Norman Tam05-Jun-2006 07:44
another great addition to the series. fantastic colors. like the way you cut off the woman on the right so as not to steal too much attention from the main subject which is the girl. was it done with your holga? great capture, ann.

cheers,
norman.

Wow wow wow! Excellent mood setting by the lime green and the partially cutoff woman. I like the simple elements too. 1st vote to you since my return to pbase :)))
suse02-Jun-2006 00:48
This is superb, Ann! The little girl's strait-jacket pose/expression, that of the woman on the right (or half...), and the colour. A very beautiful - open - image. Wow.
Guenter Eh01-Jun-2006 21:44
Wow Ann! Very artitistic! Inspiring too!
sebas veldhuisen01-Jun-2006 19:32
The greenish neon light, the introvert girl, beautiful scene. A Dennis Hopper kind of quality.

Great colour !

The way it swims in green/yellow, the Arbus inspired comp and the repetition of squares in a square frame, of course. V.

Ana Carloto O'Shea31-May-2006 18:06
Great atmosphere!! Wondrfully composed also. Congratulations.
Christina Craft31-May-2006 15:01
I really love this one.I can see it as a large print. The artificial light adds a lot of ambience and I love the woman cut off on the right hand side.
Kal Khogali31-May-2006 14:53
The woman adds to the surrealness in my opinion. It transforms this image from calm to tension. I like that ;-))K
Ann LT31-May-2006 14:24
Grace and Laine: Thanks for the suggestion. Cropping the woman out was my first thought but I always want to try something less conventional (as if this photo is conventional...lol)
so I left the woman partiallly in. Her face and stance look a little eerie to me in this photo. Leaving her whole didn't do it for me.
Ann LT31-May-2006 14:20
Thanks everyone for the kind comments and votes.
Wow,didn't expect so many votes. :)
laine8231-May-2006 09:08
Great work Ann. Momma bear is watching you though ;) Like Grace I think cropping her out would really set this rocking, JMHO ! Still voting though
GdL31-May-2006 08:14
Wow, Ann, this is really good. At first glance, it looked like a moving image because of the floor boards! The saturation is awesome. And I like the cropping of the woman, although I wonder what the difference in impact would be with just the little girl. Voted!

matches my shoes ann!! love this!!vote!!
Steven Jusczyk31-May-2006 06:26
Striking image, I came back to it again. Strong mood, It makes you wonder about the girl's thoughts.
Ray Rebortira31-May-2006 04:36
Very surreal, the girl seems wrapped in a straitjacket while the woman standing snidely smirks. If this is not installation art, it is very disturbing indeed.
Roe..31-May-2006 03:06
I'm lovin' this..VOTE!!!
