Reaching For The Moon
The moon looked big and bright on this morning at Delta Ponds. And the trees look stark and bare. It looked like they were reaching out to the moon! Adjusting white balance for a more blue tone and minimizing reds and greens helped to give the trees that bare and contrasty look. The result was pleasing and more how I visualized the scene.

Don't Needle Me!
Loved these pine needles with all their rainbow of colors! It's good to look for subjects that are brightly lit in the sunlight. and a dark background in the shade. It's one of my favorite kinds of photographs, which likely doesn't surprise you. :)

Beauty On The Rocks
I absolutely love the wings of the egrets and herons. They are huge, with a wingspan of six feet. It is always pure delight to see them with wings spread. That is why I was excited to get this shot.

Falling Leaves
Calling this season "fall" is very appropriate. Tons and tons of leaves must fall, and end up on the ground where we rake them up. But when they turn so many delightful colors and all of that beautifies our earth, it is delightful. Fall (or autumn) is probably my favorite time of year, at least until I get into one of the other seasons. Then it becomes my favorite. All seasons have their delights and wonders. They all provide great subjects for our artistic expression through photography.

Bright Eyes!
Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, correct ID thanks to several individuals who commented on the photo. It was photographed at Delta Ponds. That made it a good day. :)

Friendly Gaze
This mural is on the side of a small store in downtown Springfield. I am not sure of the significance of the artwork but was drawn by the colors and the friendly gaze or stare, not sure which. I can't remember what the store front looks like, or what they sell. Will have to go and check that out. Anyway, I thought it made a good picture. :)

Downy Woodpecker
I was thrilled to see this beauty at Alton Baker Park. I wasn't sure whether it is a Downy or an Acorn Woodpecker. Thanks to feedback it has been identified as a Downy. I don't get to see woodpeckers of any kind very often at all! I was standing on a bridge shooting pictures of the stream below when this woodpecker landed in a dead tree almost in front of me! Sometimes such things are so exciting that I mess up my shots. I got some good ones this time, and the woodpecker kept moving around the tree trying to find food. I thank it for that! :)

Light in the Window
We had a cold sunny morning today. But there were still dark low clouds around, which worked well to give a dark background. The directional light created highlights in the windows of this building. They seem to almost glow. Anyway, I liked the result. :)

Water Catcher
Leaves, by their very design, are wonderful collectors of moisture. And water drops on leaves are beautiful to me. This one caught my eye!

Good Spot For Fishing?
Due to all the rain we have been getting, the water flowing through Delta Ponds is a little rough in places, where it goes through flood gates or culverts, between some of the ponds. I imagine this makes it tough for the large birds to fish. But that didn't stop this Great Egret from trying. But maybe this is a good spot for fishing! Again, I got caught in a downpour. oh well, it's Oregon. :)

Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.
I saw this little song sparrow (thanks Carl) at Delta Ponds, in the rain. I finally had to give up and come home because it was raining too hard, and I and the camera got too wet. I thought it was neat that one can see the raindrops on the feather of the sparrow. It is also plain to see how the water just runs off the feathers, keeping the little bird dry underneath.

Fall Colors on the Armitage Bridge (Coburg Railroad Bridge)
The Coburg Railroad Bridge was built in 1887 for the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company. After many years of use by the railroad it was retired when the branch line was shut down. The bridge is now a pedestrian/bike bridge and part of the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway.
