Can a Banana Peel Be Appealing?
On a short walk to get a latte, I saw this discarded banana peel and wondered, Can a banana peel be beautiful? I think so, in its own way!
I know, I know! I'm treading on a slippery subject here and may fall flat on my face. Here's hoping you agree, even if you don't go bananas over it! :)

Lovely Kirk Pond
Kirk Pond lies below Fern Ridge Dam along the north side of Clear Lake Road, opposite the dam on Fern Ridge Lake. It is a "minimally developed day use park with, vault toilets, paved roads, picnic tables, fire rings, trails and a fishing dock. No group picnic areas and no reservations. Fees: none (free area)." (
http://www.ohwy.com/or/k/kirkpark.htm)
One often find birds there, herons, egrets, cormorants, eagles and of course geese and ducks. The beautiful park there is very popular in the summer, and is well used all year round by some who take their walks there or walk their dogs in the area.

Try a Ride on EMX
Lane Transit District's bus rapid transit line, EMX, runs from downtown Eugene to Springfield downtown, then it follows a loop to Riverbend Hospital and Gateway Center. The section shown here follows Pioneer Parkway. In the daytime, the EMX roadbed looks level. Here, in early morning fog, it takes on a wavy appearance, due in part to the effects of shooting at 300mm focal length.
Don't let appearances fool you, it is a very comfortable ride.

Want to Mix It Up?
A neighbor of ours has this old cement mixer in his front yard. I thought it looked much better than usual with morning frost on the edges of the gear teeth. Somehow I find beauty in its business-like appearance.

Charcoal Painting by Carol Rankin Rogers
I have always said that if Carol was as involved in photography as I am, she would be a much better photographer than I am. She has tremendous artistic talents. able to draw and paint like a master. This is a charcoal paintings she did as a gift for my father. Yes, there are colored charcoal sticks!

Dating Days!
This is a photo from September 1960, when Carol and I were dating. (We got married in May, 1961) This shot was taken at the State Fair in Salem. Earlier in September we rode everything at the County Fair and then rode most rides at the State Fair. We had so much fun. And we still know how to have fun together. :)
They had these painted figures that you stand behind, with cutouts for your head. That was where this photo was made. The photo didn't hold up well. It is pretty well faded and was very hard to copy. It was originally in color, but the copy looks better in B&W.
As a side note, it was 102 years ago today that my father was born. He died in 2000. But loved ones live on in one's memory.

Winter Decoration
It was a bit foggy and frosty this morning, just enough to outline the leaves in such a pretty way. Winter has a way of decorating nature with a beauty unique and different from the rest of the year. This is an example.

True Grit!
I ventured out early this morning for the first time since the accident, and walked down to Dutch Bros. to get a latte. I can't drive yet, so I took my first walk instead. I did pretty well too, though I felt a bit wobbly. It had rained a bit overnight and I liked how this parking lot drain looked in the dim glow from the lights overhead.
Thanks for all the encouragement and well wishes!

Cottage in the Country
Our foggy conditions continue. It was so foggy early this morning when visibility was only a half mile or so. We have warnings about stagnant air. If forecasts are correct, we may get a break and some rain to clear the air next week.
May your days be sunny and your camera full of wonderful images!

My New Car!
I thought I would start the new year off by driving my new car up to the snow! How do you like it? I think it will become a classic when it gets old enough. It was a long slippery drive but It was worth it to get this pretty scene!
OK, KIDDING!
I still can't drive and am healing, so I set this model 1941 Ford Coupe in front of a 12x18 print of one of my photos. Interesting thing about that model. It is exactly like the car I learned to drive in lots of years ago. It was my sister's boyfriend's car (they married soon after). He would leave it at our place in the country when he went to work in the woods. While he was at work, my sister took me out in his car for driving lessons. We didn't tell him till years later. LOL
When we first started, I had a habit of looking at the gear shift when shifting, instead of the road ahead. I looked up to see us moving to the left with a truck coming at us. My sister grabbed the wheel and we made it past safely. My poor brother-in-law had to put up with a lot from us. But he was the one who really got me interested in photography. I had long been shooting a Kodak Brownie. He was the one who got me interested in having a quality camera. Both he and my older sister died in 2004, ten years ago this year. I miss them both a lot.
Hope the year is starting off well for you!
