The Little Rascals Are Sure Growing!

I thought I would check on the bald eagle nest on Skinner Butte and the two eaglets. One parent was sitting on a branch toward the top of the tree. The little rascals are sure growing! Of course, they have a lot of growing to do. They are still fuzzy balls, no feathers yet. This shot of them in the nest has been cropped a good bit so we can get a better view of the little ones. The baby on the right is quite a bit darker than the other, and bigger.

It was nice to have some morning sun on the nest, which helped. Most of the few days I have been able to get up there have been cloudy and dark. What is unique about our viewing spot on top of Skinner Butte is that we are at the same level as the nest, even though it is high in a tall Fir Tree. So from that vantage point we are able to see the chicks in the nest.

It's amazing that you are able to get such a good shot of them. I wonder how many people walk by not noticing the nest is even there?

Great shot. The hatching order gives a big advantage to one chick, while the younger smaller bird has a more difficult time catching up. Hope they both make it. Voted.
