Here Comes The Coast Starlight

The Amtrak Coast Starlight runs between Los Angeles and Seattle through some beautiful scenery. Amtrak calls it "A Grand West Coast Train Adventure"

http://www.amtrak.com/coast-starlight-train) -

"En route daily between Los Angeles and Seattle, the Coast Starlight train passes through the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Barbara, Sacramento and Portland. Widely regarded as one of the most spectacular of all train routes, the Coast Starlight links the greatest cities on the West Coast.

The scenery along the Coast Starlight route is unsurpassed. The dramatic snow-covered peaks of the Cascade Range and Mount Shasta, lush forests, fertile valleys and long stretches of Pacific Ocean shoreline provide a stunning backdrop for your journey."

My daughter took that train from Ca (Matrinez) to Seattle. Long ride. She didn't enjoy it as I would.

Much better to see it coming at you on a set of rails off to the side than in your lane of the highway. ;-)

I'd love to take that train one day. I just looked it up, it takes 34 hours and 27 minutes to make the trip.

A wonderful capture of motion and beauty. I have taken this train from LA to San Francisco and it took 9 hours for reasons already stated, Amtrak does not own the track so it is sidetracked often for freight trains.

We have taken this train on various sections. Challenged by its schedule (and the fact that Amtrak does not own the tracks and so it is always sidetracked for freight), it is often called the Star-Late. Challenged tho it is, it now runs all the way to Vancouver BC. Very nice scenery along the way.
